Europeana: Hack4Europe! Dublin 2012

For: Developers

Venue: Dublin, Ireland

Description: Hack4Europe! is a series of hack days organised by the Europeana Foundation and its partners throughout Europe and provides an exciting environment to explore the potential of open cultural data from the Europeana portal to create products for social and economic growth in Europe.

The Dublin hackathon will bring together up to 30 developers from Ireland and other European countries in a two-day event. They will have access to the diverse Europeana collections – containing over 20 million records – through the Europeana Search API (including a test key and technical documentation).

Hack4Europe! 2012 Dublin will be organised by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the Irish Manuscripts Commission and the Digital Humanities Observatory in co-operation with Fáilte Ireland.

Participants will be encouraged to try out their ideas for creative reuse of the Europeana content and build prototypes showcasing the social and business value of open cultural data. Best prototypes will be awarded prizes at the end of the second hack day.
